The Struggle for the Authenticity of Faith Throughout the Ages

Abstract

This edition opens with the reflection that God’s people are called to proclaim the Word amidst a struggle against false prophets—much like Elijah and Jeremiah—a calling that finds its ultimate fulfilment in Christ. The history of the church, tracing from figures like Hendrik de Cock and Abraham Kuyper to the upcoming Indonesian translation of Calvin’s *Institutes* (2025), reveals a Reformed awakening that now resonates in Indonesia through the Indonesian Calvin Society and the 2027 International Congress on Calvin Research. The five articles featured in this issue offer: Bavinck’s critique of transhumanism, a linguistic exegesis of the phrase “salt losing its saltiness,” a cosmic pneumatology for ecotheology, an analysis of speech-act theory as applied to Joshua 1:1–9, and an exploration of the silence of God in the Book of Esther. Readers are invited to participate in the ongoing struggle for the authenticity of the faith.

Author Biography

Audy Santoso

Audy Santoso serves as Deputy Chair of Student Affairs at STT Reformed Evangelical International, Indonesia. He completed his doctorate at TU Apeldoorn, where he defended his dissertation on "Union with God: An Assessment of Deification (Theosis) in the Theologies of Robert Jenson and John Calvin". With a study interest in systematic theology, his latest article in an international journal has been published with the topic “The Essential and Relational Holiness of God: Development from Calvin's Autotheos Trinity”.
