“Garam Menjadi Tawar” (Matius 5:13) sebagai Hiperbola
Sebuah Pendekatan Linguistik

Dalam Matius 5:13, Yesus menyatakan sebuah ungkapan yang enigmatik. Ia berbicara mengenai kemungkinan garam yang μωρανθῇ. Banyak penafsir memahami ungkapan ini secara empiris. Mereka berpendapat bahwa Yesus sedang merujuk pada garam yang tidak murni, yang tercampur dengan mineral lain. Selain menunjukkan problem dengan interpretasi ini, tulisan ini berpendapat bahwa ungkapan Yesus lebih tepat dipahami sebagai ungkapan hiperbolis. Meskipun Robert Stein pernah mengusulkan untuk membaca pernyataan ini secara hiperbolis, interpretasinya tidak didasarkan pada landasan yang solid. Dengan mengisi gap tersebut, penulis akan menggunakan pendekatan linguistik untuk menunjukkan bahwa pernyataan ini lebih tepat dipahami secara hiperbolis. Dalam hal ini, penulis akan bergantung pada karya linguistik dari Claudia Claridge untuk memahami elemen-elemen penting tentang hiperbola. Selanjutnya, tulisan ini akan menerapkan elemen tersebut pada ungkapan Yesus untuk menunjukkan mengapa ungkapan ini lebih tepat dipahami sebagai ungkapan hiperbolis.
